Image’s 25th Anniversary Issue

I recently had the privilege of interviewing Gregory Wolfe about Image journal’s 25th anniversary. He had some brilliant insights about faith, culture, beauty, and contemporary art. Here’s one of my favorites:

“…the attempt to uphold more demanding art forms has been tough. The technology itself favors the sound bite, the blog rant, and the infographic over these more demanding modes of human communication… We certainly believe there remains a place for the thing we do, and in some ways there’s currently a backlash against the sound bite and “instant” culture. People of faith are becoming aware that certain modes of human communication are essential to living a mature spiritual life. If you don’t develop the attention, discernment, and awareness of ambiguity and irony that great art can help educate you to, then you will live a more superficial, isolated existence.”

The interview also caught the attention of Andrew Sullivan who shared a snippet on The Daily Dish.
