I’m happy to announce that I will be presenting a paper at the bi-annual Shakespeare Festival Conference at Grand Valley State University. I’m excited about the research I’ll be presenting in particular because it blends several things I love: critical pedagogy, Shakespeare, and Kierkegaard. I will be speaking about how Kierkegaard’s classic work Fear and Trembling can be used to help students experience Shakespearen tragedy in a meaningful way. I will also be arguing that this approach has several surprising connections with the educational theories of Paolo Freire. Also, the festival will feature a performance of Richard III by the Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company.
